Scripture depicts the archangel Lucifer becoming Satan as he rebelled against God. Since that rebellion, Satan is also known as the accuser of those who remain faithful to God as their God (Rev. 12:10).

Satan has accused the brethren ever since he lost his own place in heaven. In Job, for instance, he accuses that righteous man of remaining loyal to God only because God blessed him so much. If Satan and those who fell with him because of their rebellion still accuse those who remain faithful to God, then it would appear that they did not learn the lesson they should have learned from their horrible error.

Sometimes, mere words, even if from God himself, do not have their intended effect of making someone who has rebelled against the Light see the light. Something more is needed. The wicked servants need an object lesson to be displayed before their very eyes.

"A servant cannot be corrected by mere words; though he understands, he will not respond" (Prov. 29:19).

Therefore, God has gone beyond mere words of judgment and has created an entire universe to serve as the stage on which is acted out the lesson of the rightness of faith in him and the evil of rebelling against him.

These spirit beings misused their power to rebel against God. But if they cannot understand this, then they need only look at the human beings God created, and to whom he gave free will, just as he had given it to them. One group chose to rebel; the other has surrendered their lives to God and have chosen to obey.

Scripture for today: Ephesians 3:10
Thought for today: God uses contrast to teach his truths.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to obey, so that your truth will shine clearly.
