" . . . your allotted place" (Dan. 12:13). Not only in this life do we have a place and role prescribed for us, this passage from God's Word shows that God has our existence planned out for us for all eternity. A place has been allotted for us eternally.

"I go and prepare a place for you" (John 14:3).

These comforting and reassuring words of Jesus direct our attention away from the current scene to see the final act. We are not an insignificant part of the grand play, but neither are we the main focus. The play has a message to tell, and it is the message, not the messengers, that should receive the attention of the audience.

But the message does not go on for ever. It can be told and retold in various ways throughout the play, but eventually, the play must end. The Author steps onto the stage--and the play is over. What happens then? Evil is punished, good is rewarded. Each person in the play then receives his or her reward for being faithful to the role which that person was assigned.

"Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life" (Rev. 2:10).

Scripture for today: Rev. 3:11
Thought for today: God rewards those who play their parts to the end.
Prayer for today: Lord, forgive me when I get discouraged and fail. Help me to persevere to the end and receive the reward you have promised.
