There is a wisdom of God of which this world knows nothing. That is the wisdom which Paul desires to communicate to the Corinthians. After carefully pointing out that this wisdom has nothing to do with the type of wisdom we are used to hearing from the world's religions and philosophies, Paul goes on to speak of God's wisdom, which he is careful to declare is a "secret wisdom":
"No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began" (1 Cor. 2:7).
Now things are starting to pick up here in depth and complexity. Suddenly, Paul is speaking of secrets and a wisdom too deep for anything of this world to discover, much less comprehend. He speaks, too, of this wisdom having been around for all eternity, "before time began."
Anyone reading these words from Holy Scripture should feel a tingling in his or her spirit. There is a sense of something awesome, something straight from the depths of God himself about to be revealed here. And if that weren't enough to make us perk up and start paying more attention, there are the further words that God destined this eternal wisdom to be for our glory from all eternity.
Wow! There is definitely something exciting coursing through these words; we can feel it and we need to slow down and spend some time examining them more closely. Anticipation should be building within us as we excitedly await to see what God has to say further to us about all this.
Scripture for today: 1 Cor. 2:7
Thought for today: There is a wisdom from God that he has designed specifically for me to know. This truth electrifies my soul and spirit and causes me to yearn to know this wisdom.
Prayer for today: Holy Spirit, I ask you to keep this yearning for more wisdom from God within my heart.
