According to Scripture, the one who sins is a slave to sin; that person is under the horrible power of sin. Anyone who has eyes to see--and opens them to see--has seen this in the world. It doesn't take much looking to see the terrible effects of sin on this world.

But have you ever thought about the fact that the power of sin is not restricted to the visible world that we can see? The spiritual realm also feels the effect of sin's power. Even Satan is subject to this. Perhaps he feels that he has total freedom to rebel against God and do whatever he pleases. But that perception is false from two standpoints.

First, even Satan is subject to the power of sin. Once a person sins, sin takes over. Satan is no exception to this truth. Satan is also a slave to sin. He can no more control himself than any other sinful human being. Whether human or spirit, sin takes over the sinner. Satan is under the power of sin.

Secondly, Satan cannot do whatever he pleases because God has set limits to what He will allow the enemy to do. God is God, not Satan.

How we ought to thank God constantly for freeing us from the power of sin, the freedom of which is something Satan and his followers will never know--but which we can experience right now. Are you? If not, be sure to read Romans 6. There is no need for you to be under the power of sin in your life.

Scripture for today: Job 2:1-10; Romans 6
Thought for today: Sin takes over unless we let Jesus take over.
Prayer for today: I thank you, Lord, for your deliverance from sin.
