Jan 13

It was said previously that the third chapter of the gospel of John can be said to characterize the initial relationship that a person can have with God. The next step can be described as a fourth-chapter-of-John Christian. Here the individual moves on beyond the opening aspects of his or her relationship with Christ, where He has done it all for him or her, to a stage where the new Christian desires to serve Him in thankful response for all He has done for him or her.

The fourth chapter of John has a similarity with the third in that Jesus comes to an individual in both chapters and offers that person eternal life. Jesus comes to each of us individually. In John 3, it was Nicodemus to whom he came; in John 4, it was the woman at the well. And just as each of these persons was an individual, so was the approach which Jesus used for each one an individualized approach. God is interested in each of us as individuals. He made us that way. He is infinite and no two of us are alike--one more wonder for which to thank him.

Scripture for today: John 4
Thought for today: God's dealings with me are unique.
Prayer for today: Thank you, Lord, for making me one of a kind. No one else is exactly like me. I am so grateful for my individuality. By your doing this, I do not have to rebel against you or society or parents or anything else to alert the world that I am a unique individual. Thank you for doing that for me. Amen.
