In the warning given in Deuteronomy 13:1-5, God warns us that there are times when we will be tested by fire. Things will happen that are clearly supernatural and seem to come true as predicted, but their source is not of God but the deceiver.
We are to arm ourselves and prepare ourselves for such times and to have discernment available to us from the Holy Spirit to distinguish truth from falsehood and not be deceived.
"The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul" (Dt. 13:3).
Fire is a good tester. Fire burns away the impurities and when the process is finished, only the pure gold remains. It has been said that in ages past, those who worked with gold would put it through the fire to purify it and had a test to know when the fire had accomplished its work: when the refiner could see his image reflected in the gold.
The same test holds true for us today. God puts us through the fire until he can see the image of his Son Jesus in us.
Scripture for today: 1 Cor. 15:49
Thought for today: God refines me with fire so that he can see his image in me.
Prayer for today: Lord, grant me a heart to want your refining fire, so that I can more resemble you.
