It is interesting that the passage involving the tongues of fire on Pentecost records Peter as referring to the Scripture that says, "Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices" (Acts 2:26).
Tongues of fire came down upon him and the others and that dramatic event pointed to the Spirit's work within the human spirit ("therefore my heart is glad") and also upon the body and the mind ("my tongue rejoices").
What is in the spirit of a person is the source of what comes out of that person. If a person is devoid of the Spirit of God, evil words and deeds spring forth. But a person filled with the Holy Spirit brings forth words and deeds full of that same Spirit's workings within.
Jesus referred to this truth when he described people as being like trees that bear good or bad fruit (Mt. 7:15-20). Those with the Spirit of God in them are like good trees bearing good fruit, and those without the Spirit are like bad trees bearing bad fruit. The spirit within is the source of what is seen without.
Scripture for today: Acts 2:26; Matthew 7:15-20
Thought for today: Good begets good; evil begets evil.
Prayer for today: Help me, Holy Spirit, to produce good fruit to the honor of Him who planted me.
