The vision of Revelation 5 does not end with John weeping over the inability of any human being to open the scroll in God's hand, the scroll that reveals the meaning of our existence and the great scheme of God's grand design for all of reality.

The next verses record that one person was found who was worthy to open the sealed scroll. In all of history, only this one person was worthy of this high honor. That one person is Jesus. It is Jesus, the God-man, the Lamb of God, who is found to be worthy of this great opening of what had been hidden (vs. 6-9).

When Jesus was on this earth in human form, he once declared to the crowds:

"I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world" (Mt. 13:35).

Thank God, he has opened for us that which human eyes cannot see and which the human mind can never comprehend on its own. Thank and praise Jesus for being worthy to do this.He alone is worthy and when he opened the scroll, the voices of those witnessing the scene acclaimed his worthiness:

"You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain and with your blood you purchased men for God . . . and have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God and they will reign on earth" (Rev. 5:9-10).

Scripture for today: Revelation 5
Thought for today: Jesus is worthy.
Prayer for today: Jesus, you are indeed worthy of my worship and praise--and I give that to you right now. I worship you, Jesus, for your great sacrifice for me and the whole world and for who you are in your great love.
