Our lives are not puny, insignificant islands in the great ocean of reality--islands that have no significance or meaning. But rather they are so full of significance and so precious to God that he even recorded certain segments of people's lives into his eternal Word, so that they would be preserved forever as to their significance and
importance. Our roles in the Play are crucial to its performance.

If some should cast aside their intended role, their birthright, as did Esau and Lucifer, then that is to their shame, but it does not diminish the Play or the glory of God revealed through it. Our decision to accept or refuse our role affects ourselves, not the One who graciously wrote us into his drama. We do him no harm by rejecting our part; we hurt only ourselves. The play will go on.

"If you sin, how does that affect him? If your sins are many, what does that do to him? . . . Your wickedness affects only a man like yourself" (Job 35:6-8).

This is not to say that God is not grieved over sin, only that our refusal to play out our part in his play does nothing to hinder that play from accomplishing its purpose.

Are you willingly playing out your part in the Play? Or is it accomplishing its purpose anyway, without you?

Scripture for today: Esther 4:14
Thought for today: If I do not perform my part in God's Play, I will be the loser; the drama will accomplish its purpose.
Prayer for today: Father God, I am so honored that you have included me in your play and I ask you to enable me to perform my part to your glory.
