Psalm 138:2 says of God that he has exalted above all things his name and his word. Even God places great importance to the name by which something is called and known.
The Bible is known as God's Word. That is another name for it. It makes sense, therefore, that this name should likewise be exalted above all else. What the ultimate, supreme Being says is above all else that is said by any other person about reality. The creator of reality has the final say.
There is great comfort to be found in this truth. We have a name given to us by our earthly parents, but they have no power to save us from the sorrow and suffering that goes along with living in this world. But we also have a heavenly
Father, and he too will give us a name, a new name, when we arrive in heaven. That new name will reflect who we are in the new reality in which we find ourselves. And that name does have the power to guarantee that there will be no more suffering or tears in this new reality in his presence.
"I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it" (Rev. 2:17).
Though I cannot prove it, I believe that this new name is a most intimate secret between each individual believer and the Father that reflects the unique personality and individuality that He chose to give each of us from all eternity. That new name is an eternal remembrance to each child of God of the amazing love and intimacy that the Father bestows upon each of us.
We all want to be loved and noticed and to be known as the unique individuals that we are. Our new name will be a constant reminder that this desire of our hearts has become a reality -- for ever.
Scripture for today: Rev. 2:17
Thought for today: I will have a new name in heaven that reflects who I am to my loving heavenly Father.
Prayer for today: Father, I love you and praise you and thank you for loving me so much that you have created me as a unique individual among billions of the ages and that you love me as this unique individual and have a new name reserved for me to commemorate this.
