The Bible talks much about darkness and light, frequently comparing the two and using the stark contrast between these two opposites to point out the equally stark contrast between good and evil, God and the devil.
Towards the end, this contrast will increase. Towards the end, all things reach the culmination of what has gone on before. As evil has increased in the world, the world reaches such a low point in its acceptance of evil and its spreading of the same that the whole world is covered in spiritual darkness.
But at the end, that which is spiritual and that which is physical or literal will meld into one, so that which has been unseen because it resided within will be revealed to all. The former distinction between inner and outer will be gone.
Chapter nine and 17 of Revelation both describe pictures of the end, of darkness, but also of the opening of hell to release demons upon the earth. The former separation of hell from the inhabitants of the earth will no longer hold forth: Earth seems to become united with hell because it has become so filled with the same evil that resides in hell that there is little difference between the two, so there is no need for that separation.
But there is also a uniting of the good on earth, residing in God's people, with the good of heaven. Both groups, evil and good, now approach the final uniting of their inner spirit with the outer manifestation of that spirit as shown in their lives. The evil becomes evil beyond belief, and the good of God that resides in his people shines forth in the darkness with greater and greater brilliance.
This is the way it will be at the end.
"Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue to be vile; let him who does right continue to do right; let him who is holy continue to be holy" (Rev. 22:11).
Scripture for today: Rev. 22:10-13
Thought for today: Evil and good both reach their ultimate climax at the end.
Prayer for today: May I be found to be continuing in holiness in you at the end, Lord.
