Scripture warns us that there will be a great judgment after the end of the world and that each person's life will be judged by God (Rom. 14:12, among many others).
How will God know what each person has done? Where is the book of each person's life that records how that life was lived?
To those who know God in Christ, this may seem like a simple or even foolish matter, a small thing for the infinite God to do. But it is a valid question, especially for those who do not believe that there is a God at all and who question all these "foolish" beliefs that Christianity holds, including this one about an all-knowing God who knows what all the many billions of human beings have done through their whole lives.
This was the problem that kept one atheist from accepting God's claim on his life. He could not figure out how God could keep a record of all the multitude of tiny details of not only his own life but of all the lives that have ever existed.
As is frequently the case with those who have a belief in atheism, this man also assumed a materialistic, scientific outlook on life. He was, in fact, a genius in understanding and designing computers. God used this aspect of his personality to bring him to himself.
One day, as he was again contemplating what he considered to be an impossible thing for God to do in judging each act of every human being who ever lives, it suddenly occurred to him that God has already taken care of the mechanism by which this can occur: Each person has that recorder within himself or herself. In the memory of each human being is the record of all that that person has ever done or thought, whether remembered by that person or not. All God has to do is "hit the playback button", so to speak.
Scripture for today: Matt. 10:26; Heb. 4:13
Thought for today: All is open to God.
Prayer for today: Grant me, Lord, that I may always be aware of the fact that you know everything; nothing is hidden from you.
