Both the righteous and the unrighteous see their money meet the same fate: Neither group gets to keep it--but for different reasons. There is no need for money in hell because there is nothing to buy or enjoy in hell. Hell is a place and state of being wherein there is total separation from God, and "without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?" (Eccl. 2:25).
"In the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom" (Eccl. 9:10).
With none of these things in existence, there is no need for money. In heaven, all these things are provided in abundance -- but there is still no need for money because they are provided freely:
"Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life" (Rev. 22:17).
Let us not spiritualize away everything that Scripture describes as being available to us freely in heaven. Jesus described a lavish banquet as well. Certainly, there are great spiritual treats there for us, but we are more than spirits and Scripture also promises us new bodies in the resurrection -- and bodies require food. It may be an entirely new kind of food that we know nothing of now, but the body is always respected and never disdained in God's Word, as some other religions do.
We may lose all our money when we die, but that is no cause for sorrow for the Christian who will gain treasures beyond measure in heaven.
Scripture for today: Luke 14:15-24
Thought for today: God has a banquet prepared for those who love him more than money.
Prayer for today: I love you more than anything, Lord. I accept your invitation to your banquet.
