Hope has a strong connection with the future. Hope has to do with things not currently enjoyed or seen but expected in the future.

Therefore, it should not surprise us that just as Scripture says that the wicked have no hope, so does it also declare that they have no future. The wicked cannot keep their hope alive after they die, while believers' hopes live eternally and are realized in fullness in heaven. So, too, the wicked's future fails to materialize, while the believer enters into the fullness of his future planned by God from all eternity.

Psalm 37:38 says that the future of the wicked will be cut off, while Proverbs 24:20 declares that the evil man has no future.

Yet what a difference for the righteous. As we saw previously in Jeremiah 29:11, God gives his people both a hope and a future.

So once again, the unrighteous lose everything they had in this life, but also all hope for a better life after this life has ended. The truths of God's Word are eternal truths.

Scripture for today: Psalm 37:37, 38; Prov. 24:20; Jer. 29:11
Thought for today: One cannot keep in the next world what was not possessed in this world.
Prayer for today: Thank you, Lord, that I not only possess you as my most treasured possession in this world but that you have promised that I will keep this most prized treasure in the next -- even forever.
