One of my favorite words is reality. I am always searching for truth, for the proper perspective on reality. I want to know the way things really are.
Perspective on reality is extremely important. It is so crucial, in fact, that perspective can be a matter of life and death. You think, perhaps, that this is an exaggeration? Then consider the following true story -- and remember that this is a true story; it happened in the area where I live.
One night, a person was drowning in a river. A passerby on a bridge overhead heard the shouts and immediately responded to try to save the victim by jumping over the bridge railing in the dark, thinking that the riverbank was only a few feet beneath that bridge. It wasn't. It was over 30 feet below. He broke his back in the fall and could easily have lost his life.
I mention this incident in order to illustrate the fact that our view of reality is not just an intellectual topic for discussion in a philosophy class, but is very much a matter affecting our everyday life. For we are all "passersby".
We all are passing through life and people are dying all around us every day. One day, it will be your turn to die as well. Before that inevitable day comes, don't you think it is wise to make absolutely certain that you are ready for it? But how is that done? How does one get ready to die?
God has not left us alone in the dark to figure out the answer to this critical question. He has provided the answer in a single word, a single name: Jesus.
Scripture for today: Acts 4:12
Thought for today: Jesus gives us the right perspective on reality.
Prayer for today: Thank you, Jesus, for showing me what reality is truly like.
