How close -- or far away -- are you to reality? How closely does your view of what is real and important in life line up with what is really "out there"? The answer to that question, according to the Bible, determines whether or not you are wise or a fool.

According to this sourcebook on reality, many, many people in this world are in a situation similar to that of the man on the bridge: They have a false view of reality, and that mistaken view not only might hurt them, it will, in fact, actually (or should I say really?) hurt them, even destroy them -- forever.

We need to decide about reality. We need to make a conscious decision about what is real and what is not. We dare not simply wait to see what survives the various views put forth by the many philosophies and religions. Reality may, indeed, be what is there no matter what one believes about it, but, as we have seen, to wait and find out after we've jumped off the bridge is to wait too long. We need to make sure that we have a right vision of reality before we jump.

And we must jump. We have no choice about that. We must live -- and to live is to jump into whatever reality is there. Even if we refuse to do this, and kill ourselves in an attempt to escape a reality which we might possibly think is too painful to endure, according to the Bible, all we succeed in doing is to become imprisoned in the harshness of a deeper reality -- that of separation from God -- for ever.

So let us determine to know the truth about reality before we are forced to jump into that hidden portion of it that lies beyond the grave. God's Word has been given to show us that portion of reality that we cannot see right now. Then we can jump off the bridge, if necessary, to rescue others that are drowning in the river of life with its sometimes dangerous currents.

Scripture for today: Psalm 119:105
Thought for today: God's Word gives light to see reality as it really is.
Prayer for today: Open my eyes, Lord, to see the truth about reality through the reading of your Word.
