How do we obtain a perspective on God and reality that is true? Light reveals reality. The true story with which I began this section of these devotions described a man jumping over a bridge railing in the darkness, because he could not see that the reality of the ground was much farther away than he thought. If this had occurred during the day, he would not have jumped, for he would have clearly seen the reality of distance.

Light reveals reality.God's Word is the light that shows us reality. We need this light every day. We cannot take one look one time and then forever be assured that we are functioning in reality in accord with its dictates. We are assaulted every day with things that seek to turn us aside into a multitude of false visions of reality and so we need to be constantly on the alert that our own vision is true. Otherwise, we will be the blind being led by the spiritually blind of this world.

Jesus said, "I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness" (John 12:46 (RSV).

Prayer for today: Jesus, I look at you and see the true nature of the Father and his creation. Thank you for giving this sight to me.
