Reality can be perceived at varying levels of awareness. On the lowest level, there are those who think the physical or material world is all there is. Paradoxically, even these can have a religion of sorts. Jesus encountered such in his day. They were religious leaders called Sadducees and they believed that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit (Acts 23:8).

No such things of the unseen world, no greater life than what we see here? That must be why they are sad -- you see!

But most people realize that there is more to life than what can be seen. There must be a whole realm invisible to us, for so much of life is left illogical and unexplained without it. It is amazing to me how some very intelligent people when it comes to the physical realm (scientists who know a great deal about that realm) reject this whole concept. How is it that they so readily accept a physical world full of unseen realms (atoms and energy and quarks and black holes and on and on), yet cannot accept the notion of an unseen realm of spiritual beings?

Just as the visible world of rocks and chairs depends on the invisible reality of atoms for its very existence, so does it depend on the power of the invisible spiritual realm to uphold it and sustain it. In that realm, God is the one who is upholding the universe by his word of power (Heb. 1:3).

The unseen spiritual world and its laws uphold the visible world and its laws.

Scripture for today: Heb. 1:3; Romans 1
Thought for today: There are more things that exist than can be seen.
Prayer for today: Lord, though I cannot see you, I acknowledge you as the unseen source of all that I do see.
