Esau finally realized his mistake in accepting the pitiful, momentary pleasure of a full stomach in place of the eternal joys available to him in God. But Hebrews 12:17 says that this opening of his eyes came to him too late: He was unable to find forgiveness for this sin, though he sought it with tears.

There does come a time when it is too late to see all that God has been trying to make a person see in his life regarding that person's relationship with God. This is the tragic truth that reveals the great seriousness with which we should approach all that God says to us.

That truth is so powerful that, as we saw previously, the people of God were too afraid to approach the mountain where God revealed himself to them -- a sight so terrifying that even Moses said that he was trembling with fear (Heb. 12:21).

But then this chapter goes on to give us the good news. The good news is Jesus Christ. Though God is indeed the all-powerful God to be feared, Jesus Christ, by his sacrifice on the cross, has changed the mountain of fear into Mount Zion, where thousands upon thousands of angels rejoice in our salvation, and where God accepts us upon his holy mountain as holy, because we are in Jesus who has made us holy by his sacrifice on the cross.

Scripture for today: Hebrews 12:14-24
Thought for today: Jesus changes mountains of fear into a mountain of holiness to the Lord.
Prayer for today: Thank you, Jesus, for enabling me to touch the mountain which was declared too holy to touch, but is now my privilege to climb in you.
