After a thrilling but sobering ride through many deep topics regarding what God has done for us in Christ, Hebrews 12 then concludes with various warnings.

Again, as we have seen so many times before, Scripture here warns us not to ignore or put aside the extremely important words it declares to us here. It warns us that if those who heard God speak from the mountain in Sinai in the Old Testament times did not escape his judgment and punishment for refusing to heed the words and obey him, how shall we escape?

They heard God speak from a mountain that required obedience to holy laws that they were unable to keep. But we have been called simply to accept Christ's sacrifice for us. We have a much easier covenant in Christ's blood.

So if they who refused a comparatively harder covenant were punished, won't we who have a more gracious one be judged even harsher if we refuse it? If God shook the earth then, will he not shake it even more when he comes in judgment? He will. In fact, verse 27 says that not only the earth but even the heavens will be shaken when Jesus returns to judge the earth.

All of heaven and earth will be shaken on that great day.

Scripture for today: Hebrews 12:25-29
Thought for today: This earth will soon be shaken.
Prayer for today: Prepare me, Lord, for the shaking of the earth that will take place when you return. Shake my life up now and then settle it in you so that I am ready for that last great shaking.
