There was a renewed interest in religion after the 911 attack in America. This sudden renewed interest reveals that the world in which many people live their lives is one that lacks a vision of what is stable and what is not. As long as the twin towers were standing and the economy was functioning, their world seemed stable and they felt comfortable living their lives in that world. But when the towers fell, so did their world. That world was badly shaken by a single attack.
Hebrews 12:27 explains that when that which can be shaken is removed, only that which cannot be shaken remains. This is elementary logic, but how few live their lives on this basis. When the towers fell, the shaky basis for living a life based on things of this world was exposed.
The inheritance of many in the world IS the world. But Scripture tells us ahead of time that that world will collapse, and along with that collapse will be the collapse of the false reality upon which many have built their lives.
Revelation 19 depicts a city that collapses under God's judgment and whose collapse causes those who depend upon that city for their livelihood to cry out in woe. In that chapter, God's people are warned to come out of that city before God's judgment falls upon it (Rev. 18:4,5).
The warning applies to us living in a world that is now being shaken. We must not rest our lives upon what can be gained from a world that will be lost.
Scripture for today: Revelation 19
Thought for today: We are not to set our hearts on a world that cannot stand the shaking of God.
Prayer for today: Set my heart upon your celestial city, Lord, and not upon the glittering gold of the cities of this doomed world.
