Can you imagine the thought of losing your life forever? It is terrifying beyond description. Yet it is possible. God makes it very clear in his Word that it is possible to lose what he has so graciously given us. If we do not give back to him what he first gave us, we shall lose it. Why?

God seeks to find his own image in all that he has made. God is love, and love gives of itself. God made us in his image and since he is love, we are to love; we are to give just as he has given. But just as God is infinite and knows no bounds to his giving in love, so are we to be like him, having been made in his image.

Since there is no greater thing we can give to God than our very soul and the life that that soul lives out in this world, that is the very thing we are called upon to do in order to show the image of God, who is infinite, in us who have been made in his image. Because God is the highest of everything in existence, so must what we give to him be the absolute utmost that exists for us, and that is our soul.

If we refuse to give up our souls, which are really his by right of creation, then we are saying that we are not made in his image of love and giving -- and that would be a lie. But nothing that is not true can live with God, and so we are called upon to witness that we truly belong to him by giving back to him the highest thing we can offer him: our soul.

God is the absolute supreme measure of all reality and our relationship with him demands the same.

Scripture for today: Exodus 20:3
Thought for today: Because God is the highest extent of reality, he and he alone deserves my highest and best.
Prayer for today: I worship you, Lord, for being God.
