Unspiritual people can neither understand spiritual things nor make judgments about them without the Holy Spirit's power within them. When we witness to people about Jesus and they respond, it is only because of the Holy Spirit's work in and through what we do that this comes about.

When Jesus conversed with the woman at the well, he was able to discern the state of her spirit and make correct judgments of her. And he did this in love and in such a way that not only was she not offended by his judgment but recognized him as a man of God because he was able to do this.

How many of those to whom we witness could say the same of us? Or are we too judgmental when we confront people with their ungodly lifestyle? It is not always an easy thing to do to confront people with the truth of God without throwing in our own human judgment of them.

And then when we do judge others perhaps self-righteously, they are just as quick to judge us. Nevertheless, if we judge with a right spirit, which means judging ourselves just as truthfully as we do others, then this too will be sensed by them. When they realize that we are aware of our own sinfulness, then God's judgment can overshadow both -- and it is his judgment that should be the focus of us both.

Scripture for today: 1 Cor. 2:15
Thought for today: All will be judged by God.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to be ready for your judgment and to help others be ready as well.
