Many people try to tell God what to do and how to run his world. They believe prayer to be some sort of magic whereby God is prodded to do what they want him to do. This is little different from the many primitive pagan religions with their many gods, and human beings trying to placate these gods by their offerings or other human actions.
Then there are those who believe God has not done a very good job of running that which he has created and that he needs their help. I actually had a man tell me this very thing once, when I was witnessing to him. He also happened to believe in UFO's and thought that alien creatures were making themselves known to our world in this way because we needed this help from them.
There are many such extreme notions in this world, but to those who hold such views and believe that they could do a better job than God at running this world or their own lives, God has this to say:
"Woe to him who quarrels with his Maker. . . Does the clay say to the potter, 'What are you making?' Does your work say, 'He has no hands?' Woe to him who says to his father, 'What have you begotten?' or to his mother, 'What have you brought to birth?'" (Isaiah 45:9, 10).
God does not need any help from us in running that which he has created. What he has done is given us the awesome privilege of participating in running his kingdom. That is one of the purposes of our life here on this earth: preparation for governing his kingdom.
Scripture for today: Luke 19:11-27
Thought for today: God is God and he knows what he is doing, whether it be running the universe or running my life.
Prayer for today: I praise you, Lord, for your infinite wisdom in knowing both how to create all things and how to govern them.
