You have dreams you would like to see fulfilled in your life before you die -- right? Has it ever occurred to you that God also has in his heart deep desires and unfulfilled dreams which he wants to become reality -- just like you do?

"Well, what's to stop him from having those desires fulfilled?" you might say. "Isn't he God? Can't he do anything he wants?"

Yes, he is God, and yes, he can do anything he wants. In Jeremiah 32:27, God himself says, "I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?" And Psalm 115:3 says, "Our God is in the heavens; He does whatever he pleases" (RSV).

How, then, can there be any problem? If God wants something to be -- if he truly does have desires within his heart -- can he not satisfy those desires simply by creating whatever he wants to fulfill them?

Before answering that question, let us first be clear about one thing: We are talking here about desire, not need. God has no needs. If he did, he would not be God, for God, by definition, is the ultimate, supreme Being, fully realized and fulfilled within himself. Acts 17:25 confirms this:

"He is not served by human hands, as though he needed anything. . . ."

God did not need to create us, for instance, in order to satisfy an unfulfilled desire for family or love. God is triune. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have interacted in love with one another from all eternity, fully complete in all their being.

But God did want to create us, in order that he might share the joy of existence and life with him: to be his family. His family came before every other family and his family is to have priority over all others.

Scripture for today:
Mark 3:31-35
Thought for today: What a privilege to have Jesus call me his brother or sister.
Prayer for today: Thank you Jesus for making me part of your family.
