The matter of losing heart is a serious one. While it is an incredible honor to work in the kingdom of God, to be one of his chosen instruments through which he does his work, it is also true that this is an incredibly demanding life. God demands all, our whole heart and soul and life. We were made for him and are left down here on this earth to live our lives out in service to him. This is no small task, and totally beyond our reach to accomplish unless we constantly look to him to enable us to do this.

Being human, we are prone to all the weaknesses and sinful tendencies of this condition. We can grow weary, lose our temper, get tired, make mistakes. We are chosen vessels of honor, chosen to do the very work of God.

"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us" (2 Cor. 4:7).

Our weakness is the very thing that enables God to use us. If we thought we were strong enough to do his work on our own, he would not be able to use us, for then we would get the glory, not him. Therefore, we should say with Paul:"If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness" (2 Cor. 11:30).

Scripture for today: 2 Cor. 4:7; 11:30
Thought for today: God's strength shows through in my weakness.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to keep my eyes off of my own weaknesses and feelings of unworthiness and to focus them on your strengths and the worthiness you give me in Christ.
