I have no problem with the reality of there being a hell. It makes perfect sense to me, and is plainly stated in Scripture, that there needs to be a final accounting by God for all the evil that has taken place over the ages here on this earth.
I do not question God's fairness or his wisdom or his right to administer justice. He is infinite in wisdom and his holy character means that his ways are true and just. I do admit, however, that in my limited human understanding, this is one area that I cannot fully comprehend.
But comprehending it or not, I accept God's revelation of himself and his ways in his Word, the Bible, as the true account not only of the way things are but of the way they have to be, for logical consistency and to remain true to reality and God as the ultimate of that reality. We do not have to understand everything about reality to accept that reality as the wisest possible. It is better to let God deal with matters that are too deep for human heads.
"I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me" (Psalm 131:1).
If you have similar doubts or questions of your own about this or any other area regarding our faith or reality as described and revealed by the Scriptures, I urge you to follow the advice of the Psalmist and to trust God to be who he says he is: Wise enough and loving enough in his infinite nature to be fair and just in all his ways, and not to concern yourself with things never intended by God for us to deal with.
Scripture for today: Psalm 131
Thought for today: God can be trusted to be fair and loving.
Prayer for today: I trust you, God, to be who you say you are, the God who knows.
