When we witness to people and speak to them about the new life available to them in Christ, we are not to look to the hopelessness of the dead coming to life, or trust in our own clever arguments to win them to Christ, or to rely upon anything coming from ourselves. Our trust is to be solely on the power of the Holy Spirit to give them new life in Christ. We do not put the breath of life in them; God does.
In Ezek. 37:6, God says, "I will put breath in you and you will come to life."
But for what purpose does God do this? Why does God give new life to human beings through the Holy Spirit in Jesus Christ? He answers this question in the same verse:"Then you will know that I am the Lord."
Actually, these words answer not only the question regarding God's purpose in bringing back to life the bones of Ezekiel's vision, but answers the much broader question of why God does anything at all.
God is the ultimate, supreme reason for all existence. He existed eternally before there was anything else, even before there was time. Then, when he decided in his sovereignty to create time and the universe, he did so. If we ask why, we get the answer of Ezekiel 37:6: So that we will know that he is God.
Scripture for today: Ezekiel 37:6
Thought for today: God has given me life so that I can know that he is God.
