I desire that fullness of life that Jesus came to give all who believe in him (John 10:10). Not only that, but I want to be able to pass on that life to others. I even asked God for that very thing. I asked him to grant me the ability to impart to others his own life.
In a way, this is a bold, even audacious request. Who am I, a mere, sinful mortal, to think that I can give to others the very life of God? And yet, in another way, it is not too great a request at all. In fact, God expects us to be imparters of his life to a dying world. He has called us salt and light, things that wake up a world in darkness and invigorate it as salt does to food.
This request of mine came after a period of time in which God himself directed my attention to this matter of imparting his very life to others. But, even though I felt led by him to ask for what I considered to be a pretty bold request, I did have doubts as to the wisdom of doing so. Had I, after all, asked this in pride?
Then I found myself one evening in a line slowly making its way past a guest minister for ministry by the Holy Spirit. At the end of the line was the local pastor of that church, whom I knew, and who, without any prompting on my part, placed his hand on my abdomen and recited John 7:38, the Scripture reading for today (see below).
I had my confirmation that all this was from the Lord, and that he was pleased that I wanted to be one of those who gives life to others in Him, through the living waters of Christ that flow out from within my heart, where he who is Life lives in me and rules.
Scripture for today: John 7:38
Thought for today: My heart is to be a stream of living waters in Christ for a thirsty world.
Prayer for today: Lord, make my heart like a living stream of water that flows out from me to others with your living water of life.
