It is a profound honor to be one of those whom the Lord allows to be a channel of his life-giving waters to others. This is not something we can earn; it is something to which all who believe in Christ are called.Even as I write this, I am reminded of an instance of the joy which this honor brings.
Just the other day, I noticed one of the youth in the youth group with which I work seemed downcast at times during the youth meeting. When she called later that night, a stream of hurt and confusion poured forth from her heartin a voice choked with tears.
My own heart went out to her and even as I listened to her heart's outpouring, I asked the Healer of Hearts to give me wisdom in what I was to say to her. Then I simply spoke my own heart to her. I didn't want to offer her empty words or cliches, but was afraid that that might happen, as it is so easy to offer advice to others, but not always so easy simply to be silent and just be there for them.
So I was grateful and relieved when, after I had spoken briefly to her, reminding her that God was still good and that she had many blessings to be thankful for, she said that she felt better. I knew that was the truth, for I could hear it in the change in her voice. The tension was gone, peace had begun to seep back into her heart. The living waters of Christ had flowed out from him to me, and then out from me to her. Now she was ready to let those same waters flow out from her to others.
Scripture for today: John 7:38; John 4:1-42
Thought for today: The living water of Jesus Christ does not end in a dead lake but flows continuously.
Prayer for today: Lord, make my heart like a living stream of water that flows out from me to others with your living water of life.
