Where does all of this lead us? It leads us to the one, paramount realization that God wants us to have to reach that ultimate, supreme love of God. That highest awareness concerning ourselves is stated crystal clear in Romans 7:18:
"I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature."
There it is: That is the truth that lays the foundation for all else that comes later in our walk of faith in Jesus Christ. How does this verse start? "I know . . ."
Awareness is the key.
Simon the Pharisee did not know. Jesus had to point it out to him. Have you allowed him to point it out to you? Most frequently, he doesthis through his Word.God's Word shows us our sin.
Simon the Pharisee had to have Jesus, the living Word of God, point out his own sin personally. Jesus did not have to do this for the jar-woman, because she already was more than aware of her sin. That is why she wept -- and also because of the forgiveness which was also hers in Jesus.
Whether it is she or us, once the realization of our own sin becomes real to us, love begins to flow, out of gratitude for what Jesus has done for us.
Scripture for today: John 7:38-39
Thought for today: Living waters flow out of my heart in the Holy Spirit.
Prayer for today: Help me, Holy Spirit, to be ever alive in Jesus, ever overflowing with life for others.
