The wisdom of God that allows evil to happen in this world, even the incomprehensible evil of the crucifixion of the Son of God himself, is something that will never be understood by the very world that carried out this horrible deed.

"None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory" (1 Cor. 2:8).

God's wisdom is so deep and profound that ordinary mortals cannot fathom its mysteries. Scripture here makes clear that if those in charge at Jesus' crucifixion had truly known what they were doing, they would not have crucified him. Who in his right mind would dare to do such a thing to the very Son of God? Only those who do not understand.

So God used their ignorance to bring about the needful sacrifice of the Son of God on the cross in order to save the world. Even the deeds of evil men bring about glory to God. Everything, including, yes, even evil, is used by God for his gracious purposes and for his glory.

"The Lord works out everything for his own ends--even the wicked for the day of disaster" (Prov. 16:4).

We need to remember this truth whenever we are tempted to give in to despair over the increasing evil in this world.

Scripture for today: 1 Cor. 2:8
Thought for today: There is a mystery to iniquity. But God understands all mysteries.
Prayer for today: Lord, you are God. I trust that you understand when I don't. Please help me always to have this trust in you as I continue to live in an increasingly evil world. Thank you.
