What we cannot know or even conceive by the workings of our own minds, God reveals to us. How? That is what the rest of 1 Cor. 2 is all about. Verse 10 makes it clear what the answer is as to how we can know anything about God.
"God has revealed it to us by his Spirit."
Can this truth be stated any more clearly or plainly than this? It is God's Spirit who must reveal anything to us about God, not the reasonings of our own mind. God is too deep and too far beyond ability to comprehend for the feeble, limited human mind to grasp.
Paul then goes on to explain in more depth how this revelation that comes from the Holy Spirit of God works.
First of all, he wants to make sure that we know that it is the Spirit who does this, for he says, "The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God."
This, itself, is a deep thing of God. Stop and meditate on this truth for a moment. Here, Scripture is saying that there is nothing off limits for the Spirit, nothing out of bounds; there is nothing that it cannot and does not search out. The Spirit of God is everywhere, aware of everything and searching the depths of all that exists, even the very depths of God. We are approaching here, the ultimate depths of reality and God.
Scripture for today: 1 Cor. 2:10
Thought for today: The Spirit of God searches out all things, including my own heart and the heart of God.
Prayer for today: Holy Spirit, I stand in awe of you. You are God and there is nothing hidden from you. I ask you to cleanse my heart so that I do not have to be ashamed as you search its depths. And I invite you to do so.
