Now comes the really big news. After guiding us to understand that if we would truly know something about another being, whether human or divine, we must somehow make contact with the spirit of that other being, Paul now drops his spiritual bombshell: Contact has been made. Not only contact but something far more invasive and reality-shaking: We have actually received this required Spirit of God into ourselves when we received Christ as Lord!

Every human being receives a spirit from God when that baby is born. But every human being who also comes to Christ for salvation also receives a new Spirit within him or her: He or she is born again -- and with that new birth comes a new spirit, the very Spirit of God himself.

"We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us" (1 Cor. 2:12).

This is incredible! You and I who are in Christ have within us the Spirit of God, the very Spirit who alone is capable of penetrating to the depths of God's own heart -- and who reveals those depths to us! Alleluia!
