How does it make you feel to know that God owns you? For some, this is simply horrible news. To be told that someone owns them, even their very soul, is totally unacceptable. They want to be "free" to live their own lives, with no interference from anyone else, not even--especially not even--from God.

But to others, this is good news. They have come to realize that they do not know the best way to live their lives. They have sensed the sinfulness of their soul and their own lack of innate wisdom to do such a monumental task as to live wisely and fully. They not only accept God's proclamation that he owns them, they cry out for him to take full possession of what is rightfully his by act of creation. They yearn to be set free from themselves. They want God to take over. They want his holiness; they want his love, his guidance, his control over their lives. They want Him.

Is that what you want? Or are you still living under the delusion that you are your own person and perfectly capable of living your own life apart from God? If so, then you need the Holy Spirit to awaken you to the true nature of your self. Why not invite Him to reveal to you the real state of your heart? The prayer for today is a request to this effect. Pray it--and take it to heart. Then give that heart totally to Jesus to do with as he pleases. Let him own you. Give him what is already his by right of creation.

Scripture for today: Col. 1:16
Thought for today: I was created for Jesus, not for myself.
Prayer for today: Jesus, thank you for creating me, for I acknowledge that you are my Creator and the Creator of all that exists. I am so glad that you own my soul. I now freely give my heart to you. Please take over my life and make it yours. Amen.
