People react in one of two ways to the truth that they belong to God. As we have seen, some recoil in total rejection. They want nothing to do with God or his having his way in their lives. So intense is this reaction that Scripture calls it hatred. When God shines his light of truth upon their hearts, they hate the light and try to run away into the darkness. How foolish to prefer darkness to light. In this, they are judged by their own actions:
"This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God" (John 3:19-21).
Friend, what is your reaction to the light of God shining upon your soul? Have you accepted God's revelation of yourself to yourself--or are you running away into the darkness? Do not be afraid of what God's holy light will reveal to you about yourself. Read the Scripture for today and see why you have nothing to fear about allowing the revealing light of God do its work in the dark recesses of your soul.
Scripture for today: John 3:16-18
Thought for today: It is the darkness we should fear, not God's light.
Prayer for today: I thank you, Lord, for caring enough about me to reveal myself to me. Thank you, Jesus, for dying to free myself from my self. Amen.
