It is strange how people of this world have a mistaken concept of what it means to be free. The common misconception is that human beings are meant to be "totally free".

But the truth is, no one is totally free. Our human nature is one of natural limitations. No one is free to murder someone else. Our freedom to do as we please is limited. As one person has put it, your freedom to swing your fist ends where my nose begins.

Neither is anyone totally free to drive a car wherever he or she chooses. That line down the middle of the road is a limit upon our freedom to drive.

But the biggest limitation of all is that which comes from sin. Sin prevents us from doing the good that we would do. Listen to Paul's cry concerning this:

"I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing" (Rom. 7:18, 19).

Paul was not free to do the good that he wanted to do. Sin kept him rom total freedom to do what he wanted. And we are the same. Because of sin, no one is free. But Jesus Christ came to set us free from sin. And he has--and we are. Hallelujah!

Scripture for today: Romans 7
Thought for today: True freedom is found only in Jesus Christ.
Prayer for today: I thank you, Jesus, for setting me free from sin, death, the devil--and myself. Thank you.
