After his resurrection, Jesus walked along the road with two of his followers. Scripture says that they were kept from recognizing him. Why would God do such a thing? Doesn't he want people to know him? Of course he does, but he wants them to know him in the right way.

The world is full of a multitude of descriptions about who God is and what he is like. But there is only one truth about God and that truth is found in Jesus Christ (John 14:6). God wants to be known only through his Son Jesus. Any other way is not his way. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to know God except through this way.

Some claim that they did not recognize Jesus because his appearance had changed from the crucifixion and resurrection. But it is also possible that God had something he wanted to show them and in order to do this, they had to be prevented from recognizing Jesus right away.

But as they continued to walk with him, they became aware that the Word of God was speaking to them in a way they had never experienced before. The Word of God was alive.

Indeed he was--and walking with them right where they were.

Scripture for today: John 14:1-4
Thought for today: Jesus walks with me through this world.
Prayer for today: Thank you, Jesus, for walking with me through this world.
