What consequence came to Samuel for paying close attention when God spoke to him? 1 Samuel 3:21 says that the Lord "revealed himself to Samuel through his word."
What tremendous lessons we can learn through these few words of Scripture! Just like Samuel, if we pay attention to the Word of God, we too will find that God reveals himself to us.
Samuel was a prophet of God. He spoke God's word to God's people. Samuel paid attention to God's words spoken to him; later, the people paid attention to Samuel's words spoken to them about God.
If we would have people of this world pay attention to the word of God we speak to them in our witnessing, we would do well to follow the example of Samuel and pay attention to God's Word and not let one of them fall to the ground:
"And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts" (2 Ptr. 1:19).
Scripture for today: 1 Samuel 3
Thought for today: I do not read God's Word solely for my own benefit; others' souls may depend on my reading God's Word.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to see the seriousness of reading your Word.
