We who are called in Christ are a kingdom of priests to serve our God. We have been called out of this world, just as God called his people out of Egypt in the great exodus. Therefore, we can learn much by examining what was involved in that call of long ago and applying it to our own lives.
In Deuteronomy 29:10, Moses declared to the people, "All of you are standing today in the presence of the Lord your God."
I love the words which the prophet Elijah spoke concerning his awareness of God in his life. When speaking to the people regarding God, he would say, " . . . As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand . . ." (1 Kgs. 17:1 KJV).
Elijah was constantly aware that God is everywhere and that he, Elijah, always stood in his presence. What a vision for life! We all need this vision. If we are to be God's people, we need to see always that we stand before him.
But for what purpose? Why do we stand before God every day of our lives? The answer to this fundamental question was given by Moses to the people as well:
"You are standing here in order to enter into a covenant with the Lord your God, a covenant the Lord is making with you this day and sealing with an oath" (Dt. 29:12).
God has made a covenant with his people to be their God and they are to be his people. You and I are part of this covenant.
Scripture for today: Dt. 29:9-15
Thought for today: I am part of God's covenant people.
Prayer for today: God, through your power, enable me to keep your covenant with me through Jesus Christ.
