The book of Revelation is the last book in the Bible and it deals with last things: the end of the world, the final judgment, and the final destruction of evil, as well as the culmination of the kingdom of God.
But even though this last book looks at last things, it also refers back constantly to the beginnings of things. There are many parallels in Revelation between the Old and New Testaments, and between truths revealed in Genesis, the first book of the Bible, and Revelation, the last book.
This is fitting, in that the Author of the grand design revealed in all creation is also the focus of all that exists. Therefore, it is quite natural that this thread of unity should run through the entire Bible and find its ultimate expression in the book that binds it all together.
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End" (Rev. 22:13). Hebrews 12:2 calls Jesus the "author and finisher" (KJV) of our faith.
Scripture for today: Rev. 22:12, 13
Thought for today: God is the beggining and the end of reality.
Prayer for today: Almighty God, I bow before you in awe. You are God and you alone are God. I worship you.
