Do you know what the last word in the Bible is? It is "Amen." Amen means, "It shall be so."

The Bible is God's revelation to us of the true nature of reality. He is the ultimate expression of reality. He is God. Whatever he says comes to be. There can be no more fitting expression to close the book we call the Bible. First of all, that expression is found in the book of Revelation, emphasizing that the Bible is a book of revelation: It is God showing us reality.

Secondly, the Amen declares the finality of what God has said in this book. It is useless to argue with God about the way he has created reality. The Amen testifies that what God has said is the way it is and will be forever.

"My word that goes out from my mouth . . . will not return empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it" (Isaiah 55:11).

One purpose for which God sent his word is to produce children for himself and brothers and sisters for his Son Jesus. The day comes when Jesus will return to take back to heaven with him his brothers and sisters. This event is so important that the next-to-last verse in Revelation, and therefore the next to last verse in the entire Bible speaks of this event:

"Yes, I am coming soon" (Rev. 22:20).

To which those who are looking forward to his coming for them reply, "Amen. Come, Lord Jesus."

And then, finally, at the very end, is the single word: "Amen" (v. 21). It shall be so.

Scripture for today: Revelation 22:20, 21
Thought for today: The end comes.
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, come.
