Speaking of God, Revelation 4:11 says, "Thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created" (KJV).
Here we find two clear statements that have much bearing on the question of why there is anything at all.
First, "all things" (all that exists--reality) have not always existed by some sort of eternal power of self-existence; rather, all was created by an eternal Creator, who does have this eternal, self-existent power.
Second, this Creator created all else. He did not create himself, however, which would be a logical impossibility (How can that which is not do any thing, including make itself, much less make every thing?). God is eternally self-existent and he created all else because he wanted to, because, among possible other reasons, it gave him pleasure to do so.
When you reduce the enormous complexity of existence down to the most basic fundamentals, it is amazing how simple the answers become. Ask, Why does everything exist? and you get the simple answer, "Because God wants them to exist."
Of course, there is tremendous complexity behind this simple truth but nevertheless it does answer the complex question in few words and with profound simplicity. The entire Bible shines forth with this profound simplicity over and over again, explaining deep subjects in few words. But in those words are the power of the creation of the universe. For they come from its Creator.
Scripture for today: Genesis 1:1
Thought for today: All that exists finds its source of being in God.
Prayer for today: Lord, I praise you for creating all that exists. I ask your forgiveness for how we have corrupted that which you have created.
