All of us feel the disjointedness that exists in the world. There is so much fighting not only among nations but between individuals, even within our own families. There is nothing like a battle being close to home to bring home the horrible nature of sin in the world and in ourselves.
There is what seems to be a strange co-existence in the Bible regarding disunity and unity. For, on the one hand, Scripture tells us that Jesus unites lost humanity into one people of God. There is no longer Jew and Gentile but all are sons of God in Christ (Gal. 3: 26-29).
Nevertheless, this unity depends upon its acceptance, and God forces no one into union with him in Christ. Only those who want true unity with God enter into that union.
Therefore, though Jesus makes it possible for us to come back into union with God, as Adam and Eve were before the fall, in no way does he force this unity upon a person. Each individual has within himself or herself the free will to choose that unity or to remain separated from God. And some do choose not to accept God's gracious offer to reunite themselves with Him. It all depends on what one does with Jesus.
Scripture for today: Gal. 3:26-29
Thought for today: Those who are in Christ are all one with him in God.
Prayer for today: Lord, forgive me for all the times I have sown disunity in your body and help me to become ever more one with you.
